2019 Literacy Week @ PMH

19-literacy-week

During Week 7, we celebrated the progress Australian schools are making in raising the literacy levels of all students. The week showcased the hard work of our school community and the work undertaken by all Parramatta Marist teachers to increase and improve literacy standards of our students, as well as share our love for language and literature.

Spelling Bee

During their English lessons, Year 7 students completed a spelling test to determine the top speller in each class. The Spelling Bee competition required contestants to spell a broad selection of words, with a varying degree of difficulty. Congratulations to:

1st - Dwayne Erasmo
2nd - Vinz Danganan
3rd - Franklin Pulickal

Collectively, Year 7 students raised over $200 for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. The foundation provides resources to members of our community who require support in developing their literacy skills. Thank you Year 7 for your generosity.

Six-Word Story

Inspired by Hemingway's famous six-word tale, "For sale: baby shoes, never worn,” the "six word story" has served as a prompt for decades, testing writers' ability to create their own succinct masterpieces with all sorts of clever results.
Students were invited to compose their own six-word story. All entries were judged by PMH staff. Congratulations to:

1st Benjie Caliguiran, Year 9 for his topical entry: Water; gone with all the humans.
2nd Joshua Javier, Year 9 for his emotive account: She was war to my peace.
3rd Christian Moujalli, Year 7 for with his emotive piece: Her seaside eyes sparked with curiosity.
