On Tuesday, 26 February, 32 students from PMHS and CMC gathered in the Hive to launch F1 in Schools for the 2019/20 season.
F1 in Schools is an international competition in which students engineer a balsa car to travel 20 meters in less than one second.
Year 7 to 11 Parramatta Marist and Catherine McAuley students gathered to form their teams and learn from the Head of F1 in Schools Australia, Michael Myers. Michael spoke broadly of the role of an engineer, and gradually moved into addressing some of the problems that students may encounter during the competition. Michael handed around past cars and gave students the opportunity to study them closely. Students sat quietly and absorbed as much information as possible, conspiring for a competitive advantage.
Following the success of Apollo and Mobius, who qualified for the state final in 2018, expectations are high. I look forward to seeing the hard work of our young engineers translate into sub-second times on our test track.
