Congratulations to the Parra Marist Subs Team Aquarius who were crowned State Champions in the Subs in Schools tournament.
The Subs in Schools Tournament is the result of collaboration between Re-engineering Australia Foundation (REA), the Department of Defence and industry stakeholders including the Australian Submarine Corporation and Saab Australia. It was conceived in response to the Australian Government’s announcement of the $50 billion Future Submarine Program. It is the world’s first in-class submarine design competition.
Students develop a wide range of skills from design, engineering and manufacturing to the ‘soft skills’ sought after by industry (project management, teamwork, collaboration, problem solving, communication). Further complexities are underwater design, coding and electronics.
Students design either a Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicle (ROV) or a submarine which they must operate. In addition to being awarded State Champions, Team Aquarius Parra Marist students Sachin K, Dion B, Aaron H, Ben R and Krissyn M were also awarded the following in the finals:
Best Engineered, Best Graphic Design, Best Team Portfolio, Best Team Marketing, Best Manufactured ROV, Best Industry Collaboration and Best Managed Enterprise.
An incredible effort by everyone involved, and the boys are excited to attend the Nationals in 2023!
