Sydney Academy of Chess Competition

2019 Chess  (2)

On Wednesday 20th of March, MCS Chess students, participated in the Sydney Academy of Chess competition, held at Amity College, Prestons, NSW.  Parramatta Marist entered 23 students into the Secondary division of this competition, competition. The competition commenced at 9:30AM, and proceeded to 2:00PM. Over the course of the entire tournament, Parramatta Marist competed against 8 different schools. The skills which were encapsulated within the essence of the tournament involved the ability to adapt to changing situations, pattern recognition, the creation of tactics and strategies.

 

Although, there was high levels of competition amongst each team, each player was thoroughly enthusiastic, creating a very friendly atmosphere. It was great to see many students from different schools sharing the same interests and skills in Chess, making the day even more enjoyable. Parramatta Marist students experienced great success in this tournament, with two Year 10 students, Joseph Eid and Ricky Doueihi, placing 1st and 4th respectively. Overall, the  Parramatta Marist High MCS Chess team placed 2nd  and have qualified for the Semi-finals of this competition, which will be taking place in Term 3, this year.
