🎙️ 32nd Annual MSA Oratory Competition 🎙️ We are proud to have hosted the prestigious 32nd Annual MSA Oratory Competition, an event that has long been a highlight of the Marist Schools Australia calendar. The competition celebrates the art of public speaking, where students showcase their critical thinking, eloquence, and ability to express opinions on thought-provoking topics. This year’s event continued the tradition of excellence, with many talented young speakers stepping up to the challenge. More boys are getting top ATARs. Here’s how they’re doing it

Marist College Parramatta principal Mark Pauschmann, whose school had 39 boys receive an ATAR above 90 last year, said teachers focused on building reading and writing skills from year 7.

Bishop of Parramatta recognises student excellence

Each year, one Year 12 student in every Catholic secondary school in the Diocese of Parramatta is awarded the Bishop of Parramatta Award for Student Excellence. This prestigious award is nominated by the school principal and recognises a student’s witness to their Catholic faith and outstanding contribution to the school community in areas such as academic excellence, sporting achievement, creative and performing arts, social justice, vocational education and community involvement.

✨ Community in Action | Vinnies Night Patrol ✨ Our dedicated Parramatta Marist Active Volunteering students joined the incredible Vinnies Night Patrol, visiting the communities in Parramatta and Mount Druitt. Together, they connected with and served meals to those in need, providing not just food but also companionship and support. Through these interactions, our students experienced the power of compassion and learned that true service is about much more than a meal. 🌟 STEM and Construction Students Visit Western Sydney International Airport Experience Centre! ✈️🔧 Our STEM and Construction students recently embarked on a journey to the Western Sydney International Airport Experience Centre! This excursion was an opportunity for them to delve into the exciting developments at the new Western Sydney International Airport. At the Experience Centre, our students were immersed in interactive displays and cutting-edge technology, allowing them to explore the many facets of the airport’s development. From gaining insights into the vast engineering and construction projects to understanding the future impact of this world-class infrastructure on Western Sydney, it was a day filled with learning and inspiration. This hands-on experience has sparked curiosity and enthusiasm among our students, as they had the chance to connect classroom concepts with real-world applications. 🎉 Celebrating the Tapestry of Culture at PMHS! 🎉 This term, our Year 9 students embarked on a heartfelt journey through their cultural heritage with the Tapestry of Culture project. Through research into their fathers' and father figures' cultural backgrounds, they gained a deeper appreciation for the rich multicultural environment that makes Parramatta Marist so special. The highlight of this project was the creation of an anthology of poems, where students expressed their admiration for the role models in their lives. With deliberate language choices and poetic devices, these anthologies beautifully capture the essence of their diverse heritages. The showcase event was a vibrant celebration, where students presented their work to proud parents and carers. The room was filled with a sense of unity as everyone shared traditional foods and snacks, each representing a piece of the unique cultural mosaic that defines our school community. 🎶 Parramatta Marist High School’s Talented Musicians Raise $1600 for Vinnies! 🎶 We are incredibly proud to share that our students recently took centre stage in Centenary Square, Parramatta for the Busking for Vinnies program, showcasing their musical talents in support of a cause close to our hearts. Performing as part of the school’s musical ensemble, our students not only entertained the public but also played a vital role in raising awareness for the essential services provided by Vinnies. The event was more than just a performance; it was an opportunity for our students to engage with the community, learn the importance of giving back, and use their skills for a greater good. Beside the musicians, the dedicated team from Vinnies had a stall where they provided valuable information about their support services and collected donations. Thanks to the generosity of everyone who stopped by, we are thrilled to announce that $1600 was raised to help those in need. This significant contribution will go a long way in supporting the various programs Vinnies runs to assist individuals and families experiencing hardship. On a cold August Friday night, we recently had over 50 of our senior students and staff volunteer to participate in the 2024 Vinnies Winter Sleepout. The Vinnies Winter Sleepout raises funds for the thousands of men, women and children who experience homelessness in our community. In today’s financial climate, more and more people are turning to Vinnies. With no family or friends to help, it’s easy for someone to fall through the cracks and end up homeless. All monies raised as part of this fundraiser helps Vinnies operates numerous homeless services which include soup vans, hostels for men, family services, refuges for women and their children escaping domestic violence, accommodation services for people with a mental illness, referral services for people experiencing homelessness, education and recreation facilities offering life skills courses, training and access to medical, legal and financial advice. This is an important initiative to not only raise awareness for those who experience homelessness but also to raise funds that will go towards supporting these important services Vinnies has to offer. We’re proud to announce that the PMHS community raised over $6,500 in 2024! We’d like to thank everyone who played a part in the 2024 Winter Sleepout for their support of this important initiative.
