On Tuesday, 4th November, the tracks were set up to mark the start of the State Finals of F1 in Schools 2020. Twelve of our brightest young minds have just returned from the National Final of Subs in Schools held at St Peter’s College in Adelaide. The competition is run by Re-Engineering Australia, supported by the Department of Defence in a bid to build foundation STEM skills for our future workforce. Our attendance this year was only possible with the wonderful support of the Department of Industry and Innovation, and the Parramatta Marist Old Boys Union, who enabled us to win a grant to cover the vast majority of expenses involved.
On Sunday, 8 December, the PMH Brobotics team competed in the First Lego League National Championships - East at Macquarie University against 46 other teams. To reach the nationals, they placed second in the Regional Final, a result they genuinely hadn’t expected in their first attempt. In both rounds, the Brobots were faced with many challenges, with one of the biggest being their nerves. This was the first time competing at a National competition of any sort, and the energy in the air was electric. Despite the stress and anxiety, the boys performed very well in their Core Values, Innovation Project and Robot Design judging - with many judges commenting on their exemplary presentation skills.
Having competed in F1 in Schools for the first time in 2018, Parramatta Marist boys have adapted quickly to the rigours and high standards demanded at the Regional and State competitions. The strong results below reflect the obsession and dedication of our students. With ongoing evaluation and refinement, our boys have a opportunities to challenge for even higher accolades in the 2020/21 season and beyond. Results aside though, the rapid development of the knowledge and skills of these boys has been astounding. Congratulations to the entire 2019/20 Parramatta Marist Team for their contribution, laying the foundation for future success.
