One of most illustrious and well-regarded old boys, John Devitt, from the Class of 1954, visited Parramatta Marist on Monday to talk about his recently published biography of Olympian and soldier, Cecil Healy.
John was accompanied by his co-author, Larry Writer, and they discussed aspects of Cecil Healy's life, John's affinity with him as well as John's time at Marist Brothers Parramatta. John, a dual Olympic gold medallist, was drawn to the story of Healy after being told about him by another Australian swimming legend, Freddie Lane.
Whilst here at PMH, John also took an opportunity to open the new 'Book Nook' in our learning centre - an initiative of year 7 and 8 students who wanted a more comfortable place to encourage peers to read. Thank you to the staff, students, Old Boys and parents who took time out to listen to John and Larry and get a book signed by John.
