ABC Radio Youth Summit Interview with Parramatta Marist Westmead Students

It was an exciting day on Friday for Parramatta Marist High School as two of our Year 11 students, Anthony B and Zach K, had the privilege of appearing on ABC Radio Sydney.

They were interviewed by Dom Knight as part of a new 'Youth Summit' segment on his 'Afternoons' program.

This innovative segment provided a platform for young voices to be heard, with Anthony and Zach participating live from the ABC Radio studio in Parramatta Square. The discussion centred on pressing issues impacting today's youth, with a particular focus on social media. This timely topic tied into the themes of the upcoming Social Media Summit hosted by NSW Premier Chris Minns.

During the segment, Anthony and Zach engaged in a thoughtful conversation covering various aspects of social media, including its benefits and drawbacks, its influence on mental health, and the appropriate age for young people to begin using it. They also debated whether social media companies truly have their users' best interests at heart and discussed the potential effectiveness of implementing a ban on social media.

The students' insights and perspectives were not only impressive but also reflective of the broader concerns and thoughts of their generation. Their participation in such a significant media event underscored the importance of including youth voices in conversations about issues that directly affect them.
